With financial markets anticipating a rate hike before the end of the year, the Federal Reserve held interest rates steady again in its last decision before the U.S. election while continuing to acknowledge that the case for a move is getting stronger as the economy gathers momentum towards full employment and inflation picks up.
As this announcement was largely anticipated by investors, as is the probable rate increase at December's Fed meeting, we expect the capital markets to remain stable for the foreseeable future, which will continue to grant investors access to inexpensive and reliable capital. Another item of note is the UK High Court's ruling that Parliament must be granted a vote on the country's exit from the European Union, and we will be continuing to watch this situation to assess its effect on capital markets in the US.
